Affordable Housing Commission Chair Receives Award
Alaska Construction Academies, a consortium of statewide programs that recruits, trains and finds jobs for Alaskan students in the construction industry, has given its 2012 Employer of Excellence Award to Alan Wilson and his Juneau-based company, Alaska Renovators, Inc., which specializes in cutting edge solutions for energy efficient homes in Southeast Alaska. Wilson and his company were nominated because of their support and commitment to the Juneau Construction Academy.
Wilson also serves on the Board of Directors for the Cold Climate Housing Research Center and is chair of the Juneau Affordable Housing Commission, which operates in partnership with JEDC. He has also volunteered his time to promote the Juneau Construction Academy and has hired six academy graduates, who he believes come to the job with realistic expectations and have a strong grasp of tools, the sequence of building projects, and safety precautions."We need people that are exposed to the new technology for energy conservation and efficiency," Wilson says. "The Alaska Construction Academies provide an opportunity for Alaskan's to gain this knowledge."
