Emergency Shelter
Emergency Shelter is any facility with overnight sleeping accommodations with the primary purpose of providing temporary shelter for the homeless in general or for specific populations of homeless persons. The length of stay can range from one night up to as much as three months.
In Juneau, Emergency Shelter services are provided by four organizations; AWARE, Inc., Juneau Youth Services, St. Vincent DePaul, and The Glory Hole.
AWARE, Inc. provides shelter for young pregnant mothers (18-25) and victims of domestic violence and substance abuse.

The Glory Hole provides and emergency overnight shelter for people in crisis and anyone in need.

In a 2008 Housing Assessment Survey, the Juneau Homeless Coalition determined that additional space for approximately 50 persons in this category was necessary to fit the demand of clients at the time of the survey.
