JEDC gives awards at 2012 Southeast AK Regional Science Fair
The winners of the JEDC awards at the 2012 Southeast Alaska Regional Science Fair were Riley Westfall for his project, "Can Electricity be Generated by a Simulated Osculating Water Column?"and Rhys Coffee & Zach Gianotti for their project, "The Effects of Decomposing Plant-Based Plastic Paired with Substrates." The Juneau Economic Development Council offered awards in two categories at the fair.
The Innovation Award was for a project that is inventive and imaginative, that reflects a new way of looking at a topic or challenge, and/or is novel in approach. The Market Potential award was made to the project that has the greatest potential to lead to a commercially viable product or process, or opens the door to new possibilities in the marketplace.
The mission of the Southeast Alaska Regional Science Fair is to provide high school students with the opportunity to integrate their science education with real-world science, to support interaction between students and the scientific community, and to inspire young people to science careers.
