Mayor Ken Koelsch

Mayor Ken Koelsch grew up on a farm in Michigan and learned the value of hard work at an early age.  After graduating from college, he applied for a teaching job in Juneau, and in 1968 was hired by Bill Overstreet – who was school superintendent before he became Mayor.  In addition to teaching English, history and government classes at JDHS, he produced and directed the annual school musicals and advised the student councils, interacting with hundreds of students over the years.  He also served as Port Director for US Customs and Border Protection for 18 years.  Mayor Koelsch and his wife, Marian, have two grown children and three grandchildren.  He was elected Mayor in March, 2016.
