Sun to Sea JUNEAU

2010 Camp Dates: July 12-23

Camp limited to 14 students.

The Sun to Sea Science Camp is sponsored by NOAA and SpringBoard, a program of the Juneau Economic Development Council.

  • Camp hours: 9 am - 3 pm, Monday through Friday, July 12-16 and 19-23
  • Open to students going into 7th, 8th or 9th grades
  • Families are responsible for student travel to and from the camp
  • Bring a sack lunch and dress for the weather
  • Camp is limited to 14 students; there will be rolling admission so apply early!

The overall cost for the ten-day camp is $250 per student. Payment is due by the first day of camp. Checks, VISA, and MasterCard are accepted. Please make checks payable to the Juneau Economic Development Council (JEDC). Registrations received after the camp is full will be returned with a FULL refund. Credit card payments will not be processed unless a student is enrolled.

REFUND POLICY - Refunds will not be given to students that are enrolled but do not complete the camp. Exceptions will be made only on the basis of unforeseen medical or family emergencies.

Here's some IMPORTANT INFO to help you get ready for camp:

Date, Time & Location:

  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday @ NOAA's Auke Bay Laboratory (11305 Glacier Highway)
  • SPECIAL DROP-OFF/PICK-UP CHANGES:
    • EARLY DROP OFF - Wednesday, July 15. Please have students at Auke Bay no later than 8:30 AM. Bus will leave promptly at 8:40 am (or as soon as all students are present) to go to Sunshine Cove for low tide.
    • PICK UP @ THE TRAM - Wednesday, July 21 at 3:00 PM (same time).
    • SPECIAL POOL EVENT - Thursday, July 22. Student should be dropped off (with swim gear) at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool at 8:30 PM and picked up at 10:45 PM.
    • DROP OFF & PICK UP @ NOAA's Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute - Friday, July 23 (17109 Pt. Lena Loop Road). Normal drop off time at 9:00 AM. Special presentation to parents from 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM.
  • Interested in Carpooling??? Please plan to stay a few minutes on Monday morning to discuss options with other parents.

What to bring/wear:

Clothing -- Students will be spending some time outdoors every day and should always come ready for the elements.

BOAT DAYS - Tuesday 7/13, Friday 7/16, Tuesday 7/20. On these days, students will be out on the boat (spending much of their time on deck) for half of the day, and inside in the lab for the other half. Please make sure they have appropriate layers for each.

BEACH DAY - Wednesday, 7/14. Students should wear rubber boots! If you own waders, please bring them!!!

  • All payments should be received before the start of camp. Please do not bring payment with you to camp.

SUN2SEA HAINES: This year, there will be a Sun to Sea camp running at the same time up in Haines. Those students will be traveling to Juneau on Wednesday, July 21 and joining the Juneau students for various activities during the last three days of camp, including the special SeaPerch games at the pool on Thursday night. Please help us welcome them to Juneau!
