Wood Products Development Service
The mission of the JEDC Wood Products Development Service is to help foster diversification and growth within Alaska's emerging value-added wood products industry, thereby expanding the State's economy, improving the utilization of forest resources, and retaining and creating jobs.
Our Wood Products Specialist, Dan Parrent, brings over 25 years of experience to the program and acts as the hub of an information and skills network. In partnership with and funding assistance from USDA Forest Service, Alaska Region, Office of State and Private Forestry, and USDA Rural Development (Alaska), Dan provides technical, marketing and product development assistance, statewide, to existing and prospective forest-associated industries and community development projects. There is currently a renewed interest in wood as a viable alternative to non-renewable fuels for institutional heating needs.
Program activity and delivery of services are coordinated with a variety of federal, state, local, Native, non-profit and business agencies and organizations. Special projects have been conducted in cooperation with:

- Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development
- Ketchikan Wood Technology Center
- University of Alaska Fairbanks, Sitka Forest Products Program
- City of Sitka, Alaska
